Bozkovské jeskyně are the only accessible dolomite caves in the Czech Republic — known for their unique orange-pink walls, intricate corridors, and the largest underground lake in the country. Tucked beneath the foothills of the Jizera Mountains, they offer a quiet, magical underground world far from the crowds.
On the way to Karlovy Vary
Enjoy the ride
Your journey starts with a private pick-up in Prague and about a 2-hour drive toward northern Bohemia. On the way, you’ll pass through mountain valleys and picturesque countryside — arriving in the village of Bozkov, gateway to the caves.
Upon arrival at destination
You’ll join an official tour through narrow corridors, decorated chambers, and stunning underground lakes. The paths are well-lit and accessible — making this trip suitable for all ages. Don’t forget to listen — the silence is part of the beauty.
These caves may not be the biggest, but they’re quietly spectacular. The calm here feels ancient — like nature just paused for a while to let you look around.
Temperature stays around 8°C (46°F) year-round, so a light jacket is essential. And bring your phone — but only for photos. Signal won’t help you underground (unless you’re trying to text a stalactite).
And yes — there’s a lake, and it’s as magical as it sounds. You can’t swim in it. But you’ll want to.
The Story of Bozkovske Caves
Origin of the Bozkovske Caves
Formed in dolomite limestone over thousands of years, the Bozkov Caves were discovered in 1947 by accident during blasting in a nearby quarry. Since then, over 1 km of passages has been mapped, and a section is now open to the public.
Unlike classic karst caves, Bozkov’s orange-pink walls and distinct shapes offer a different visual experience. Add in clear underground lakes and peaceful stillness, and you get something closer to meditation than tourism.
Character & feeling of this place
This isn’t a place for spectacle — it’s for wonder. The hush, the cool air, the reflections in silent water. Walking here feels like entering a space that was never meant for us… and being quietly invited in anyway.
